We’re way over-surveyed and it drives me a little nuts. I don’t want to “provide my customer experience to help them serve me better” every time I buy a pack of gum at 7-11. Online reviews especially have gone overboard and I ignore ’em . . . unless I have a really great or bad experience. Having crafted my own public surveys for clients, I try to picture the people who share my aversion and I work to keep them really short, mildly interesting, entertaining and easy to do. And, of course we’re now living in a time of general complaint, whining and cynicism, so there’s that. I’ve spent years rafting, hiking, and backpacking Grand Canyon in all kinds of weather and at all times of the year. Every part of being in that vast space soothes my soul and I can never get enough. So, I took a Midwest relative for his first ever look from the South Rim once. He walked to the edge, looked up and down and said, “Hmm, so that’s it. Huh. Where we going for lunch?’ I crossed him off my Christmas card list that year.
