I’m not talking about your next set of wheels (although electric vehicles (EVs) are clearly in your present or future) – we’re talking about public engagement. Reach and effectiveness are two arguably valid measurements for authentic public engagement. In this age of ever increasing demands on people’s time and attention, it’s just harder to attract citizens to your issues and meetings. Unless, of course, they believe that you’re going to negatively affect them in some way. Online participation makes it easier to reach more people than we ever could in person. Yet, most of us believe that face to face engagement is still richer and usually more effective than web sessions – especially when it comes to grappling with thorny issues. I’m not sure that just doing both will ever fall out of fashion. Case in point:
