Why Can’t We Just Talk?

Is it that we just don’t want to deal with or talk with people who think differently, we don’t need to, or that we’ve forgotten how? Actually, I’ve come to realize that it’s all of the above and more; there is no one easy answer. Some people are just so embedded in their own beliefs that they refuse, some with existing power and control see no reason to do so, some are just bad at it but willing, and some have indeed forgotten how. People working in local communities with folks with whom they have existing relationships might not experience the current challenges of a wickedly divided nation, but I don’t think they’re immune; the trickle-down theory is working in these cases and the divisions are growing in local communities.
